{"id":2049,"date":"2017-09-21T16:13:22","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T06:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.socialstatus.io\/?p=2049"},"modified":"2022-09-07T22:43:33","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T12:43:33","slug":"snapchat-push-remain-platform-choice-younger-audiences-introducing-campus-publisher-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialstatus.io\/snapchat-push-remain-platform-choice-younger-audiences-introducing-campus-publisher-stories\/","title":{"rendered":"Snapchat Push to Remain Platform of Choice by Introducing Campus Publisher Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>With <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/apps\/2015\/07\/14\/teens-and-basically-everyone-else-hate-that-snapchats-discover-is-now-front-and-center\/\">45% of Snapchat&#8217;s user base between the ages of 18-24<\/a> (prime college age), Snapchat is leveraging off their dominance with younger audiences to introduce Campus Publisher Stories to their Discover Section.<\/h4>\n<p>A study conducted in partnership with MORI Research, indicated that college newspapers continue to reign as a top media choice among today&#8217;s co-eds and a sought-after source for campus news, entertainment and shopping information\u00a0[<a href=\"http:\/\/printinthemix.com\/uploads\/Image\/Alloy%20The%20Fix%20Issue%201_College%20Newspapers.pdf\">Alloy Media &amp; Marketing<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ob3TH9IEnpk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"http:\/\/printinthemix.com\/uploads\/Image\/Alloy%20The%20Fix%20Issue%201_College%20Newspapers.pdf\">76% of all college students<\/a> reading their campus publication in the past 30 days, the move to include these campus stories is a strategic push for the platform to remain relevant and dominant for younger audiences.<\/p>\n<p>Snapchat launched &#8216;Discover&#8217; in early 2015 as a means to achieving their goal of becoming a &#8220;destination for consuming news&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Our ambition is very much that when something happens in the world or there&#8217;s a news event, that our audience would turn to Snapchat increasingly to get that news&#8221; &#8211; Sean Mills, Head of Original Content.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since then, Snapchat have launched a series of Stories including some of the biggest names in publishing from The New York Times, Fox Sports, National Geographic and Harpers Bazaar.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2057\" style=\"width: 537px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2057\" class=\"wp-image-2057\" src=\"https:\/\/www.socialstatus.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Snapchat-Discover-300x245.png\" width=\"527\" height=\"430\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2057\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Snapchat Discover&#8217;s facelift from 2015 to now &#8211; Image courtesy of TechCrunch<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Snapchat have selected to partner with handful of colleges around the US including Berkeley, Texas A&amp;M, Syracuse and The University of Wisconsin &#8211; Madison, to begin producing weekly Publisher Stories to be distributed on Snapchat.<\/p>\n<p>The move sees Snapchat nurturing the &#8220;talent pool&#8221; stating that many of the leading journalists and editors get their starts working in school newspapers and they plan to help each school monetise and grow their newspaper through a revenue sharing agreement (although we are not quite sure what this entails).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Something (Snapchat) really stressed was to create content that made people feel like they were in on the joke or part of the campus community &#8211; University of Wisconsin &#8211; Madison, Editor in Chief &#8211; Alice Agun on her meetings with Snapchat<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Snapchat still seems to have a fair share of control in the content being produced, working with students to develop the &#8220;right&#8221; kind of content, with a focus on virality and shareability.<\/p>\n<p>The content will only be available to users within a close radius of the campus they are currently working with, aiming to create feelings of exclusivity and\u00a0amplification of the community connectedness.<\/p>\n<p>No word yet on when this will be rolled out to Australian Universities.
